China Legal Aid Foundation is a non-governmental and non-profit organization, which accepts and manages donations from both China and abroad and subsidizes either those poverty-stricken citizens unable to engage private lawyers or the parties involved in some special cases for the purpose of protecting their legal rights and realizing social equity and justice. An independent, non-profit legal person founded in May 26, 1997 and registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the PRC for the purpose of protecting the citizens' basic lawful rights, the foundation is operated under legal procedures with the approval of the State Council.
The Foundation aims to bestow equal judicial protection upon all citizens and maintain their basic rights prescribed by the law.
Its major tasks deal with accepting domestic and foreign donations from all circles, raising, managing and allocating the legal aid-related fund, giving publicity to the legal aid system of the county, promoting legal justice, and rendering financial support to delivering legal services to ensure all protected by the law equally, providing legal advice, professional training, and international exchange concerning with the basic aim of the Foundation.
The fund is used to subsidize the parties involved in criminal, civil, administrative or non-litigation cases who meet the given requirements in compliance with the legal aid regulation, and through the legal aid organizations.
The Foundation will manage and utilize the legal-aid fund in compliance with concerning laws and regulations, in accordance with the will and requests of the donators and will accept the supervision of the news media, the public and especially the donators while raising, managing and allocating the legal aid-related fund. It will regularly publicize the relevant information and accept the audit supervision and independent evaluation.
